More about Ryan

Yosemite Valley

Big wall climbing is climbing, but not as we know it. The skills of aid climbing, jugging, cleaning and hauling bear little resemblance to the usual forms of British climbing. It is for this reason that may ambitious first time visitors to Yosemite or elsewhere often return home having failed to complete a big wall. A big wall trip is a large investment of both time and money. It could be wise to invest a little of each on a Big Wall Skills Course in order to dramatically increase the productivity of your trip and your chances of success!

All our courses are individually tailormade to your needs and on a Big Wall Skills Course you will have the option to learn skills for:

Aid climbing, including:
Clean aid climbing;
Sky hooking;
Cam hooking;;
Placement of pegs;
Placement of copper and alloy heads;
Effective use of modern etriers;
Tension traverses and pendulums.

Bivi skills, including:
Erection of a portaledge;
Food, water and gear organisation.

Jugging lines, including:
Jugging fixed lines;
Cleaning gear while jugging;
Lower outs.

Hauling bags, including:
Pulley systems;
Releasing the haulbag;
Packing efficiently.

Descending, including:
Abseiling with a haulbag;
Retreat from a route;
Down aid climbing.

And much more...
