At Ryan Glass Mountaineering all our courses are tailored to suit
your needs so you can choose on the style of course you would like. You
can choose to have a day's guiding, a day's instruction and a day's
coaching all as part of a fun climbing holiday.
There will always be some overlap in the style of the course, for
example: a course designed to be instruction based will be focused on
learning new skills but it will also involve some guiding and probably
coaching as well. Another example would be that on a day of guiding the
main focus would be on climbing a specific route or summit but most
people will pick up some new skills along the way.
No matter which style of course you choose, you'll spend plenty of time doing the actual activity, whether that's rock climbing, winter mountaineering or ridge scrambling.
These courses are learning based and focus on acquiring new skills.
Examples of instruction based courses are intro to rock course, a winter
skills course, a learn to lead course or a summer mountain skills
course. On these courses we aim to provide you with the tools to take
part in your chosen
activity independently by the end of the course.
On guided courses the main aim is a specific objective - for example climbing 'Epsolon Central' on the Puig Campana, completing the Skye Ridge Munros or climbing a winter route in the northern corries of the Cairngorms.
CoachingOn coaching courses the objective is to improve performance at a given activity. For example, a rock climber may aim to climb a grade or two harder than before the course. On coaching courses we like to think 'long term' and provide you with an understanding of what you will need to do to continue your progression after the course is completed.
On a climbing, mountaineering or scrambling holiday the
emphasis is
fun and enjoyment of the activities you take part in. These have no
strict agenda and you call the shots - if you want you can start late or
finish early and round off the day in a cafe or restaurant.
