All our courses are tailor made to suit your needs however here are some examples of what we offer:

Rock climbing, mountaineering and hill walking courses in Scotland and Wales

In spring, summer and autumn we offer a range of rock climbing, mountaineering and hill walking courses in Scotland and Wales. Our Scottish summer courses are based from the beautiful village of Aberfeldy on the river Tay in a unique location close to the geographical centre of Scotland. Our Welsh courses are based in Snowdonia in the heart of North Wales. We also offer mountaineering, scrambling and climbing based on the Isle of Skye.

Hill walking and mountaineering courses

A hill walking and mountaineering course can cover: weather forecast assessment and planning, route selection and route finding, navigation skills with map and compass (GPS navigation if requested), security on steep ground, emergency ropework, mountaineering judgement and decision making and more. There will be ample opportunity to ascend Scottish Munros or Welsh Peaks via classic routes.

Mountaineering and scrambling courses

A mountaineering and scrambling course would cover similar skills to a hill walking and mountaineering course but with a greater emphasis on steep ground. Ropework for mountaineering and scrambling would be covered and put into practice on classic scrambles such as Curved Ridge in Glencoe. The Skye Cuillin offers the most consistently challenging terrain in the British Isles and because of this the Isle of Skye is an excellent place to base a mountaineering and scrambling course.

Rock Climbing Courses

Our rock climbing courses are specifically targeted to be relevant to your level of climbing ability; from complete beginner to big wall skills courses we can cater for your needs. On all the courses you will have plenty of time climbing and trying out new skills. Examples of course are below but these are not set in stone - we can combine aspects from several courses to create the ideal course for you.

Intro To Rock - movement skills on rock, sport climbing (bolted), trad climbing (not bolted), ropework and knots, choice and use of equipment, belaying, seconding routes, lots of climbing.

Anchors and Top Ropes - gain the skills needed to setup top-ropes and climb outdoors independently; placing protection, setting top-ropes at sport climbing and trad climbing venues, rigging skills, judgment calls and route choice.

Performance Coaching - learn how to climb better and harder, gain an understanding of what is required to improve your climbing independently, improvements will continue long after the course has finished; tactics, technique, redpointing, headpointing, risk evaluation and assessment.

Intro to multi-pitch - bigger cliffs, judgment and decision making; crag choice, route choice and evaluation, multi-pitch belays, anchors and ropework, retreat from multi-pitch routes, lots of climbing.

Big wall skills - aid climbing, hauling bags, jugging lines; essential knowledge for a Big Wall holiday.

Learn to lead - risk evaluation and assessment, trad climbing, sport climbing, gear placement and anchors, ropework, belays, judgement calls, route finding and selection, analyzing guidebooks.

Winter Skills and Winter Mountains Courses in Scotland

Winter in Scotland can be a magical experience - mountains and cliffs storm-lashed and frost-bound. Many climbers and mountaineers wait the rest of the year until it is time to don crampons and ice-axes and seek adventures in one of the most challenging environments in the world. Due to the unique challenges and perils which Scotland’s winter mountains hold it is wise to gain the correct skills for climbing, walking and mountaineering in this magnificent place.

During the winter months we offer instruction and guiding in winter skills, winter mountaineering and winter climbing. All our courses are tailor made to your needs so it is possible to combine elements from more than one course. For example you may wish to begin a course with some winter skills, then undertake some quality mountain days while consolidating these skills and finish with some winter climbing. For those enjoying sun as opposed to snow we also offer rock climbing holidays and adventure courses in Spain at this time of year.

Winter skills courses in Scotland

Our winter skills courses pack in a huge amount of learning into a small amount of time. You will get to grips with ice axes and crampons, navigation, travel on snow and ice, arresting slips and slides, travel on steep ground, weather and snow evaluation and more. Our Scottish Winter Skills Courses are based from the beautiful village of Aberfeldy on the river Tay in a unique location close to the geographical centre of Scotland.

Winter mountain courses in Scotland

Our winter mountain courses enable you to learn all the skills of a Scottish winter skills course and also to put these skills into practice in the context of quality mountain days. There is a greater emphasis on judgement and decision making and progression towards becoming a competent, independent winter mountaineer able to travel with confidence and safety in Scotland’s Winter Mountains. Our Scottish Winter Mountaineering Courses are also based from Aberfeldy.

Spanish rock climbing holidays and adventure courses, via ferrata and ridge scrambling

Our Spanish climbing holidays and courses run through the winter months and are based in the area around Finestrat. This area of Spain enjoys Europe’s warmest and sunniest weather and is a great place to enjoy a rock climbing holiday during the UK’s darker and wetter months. Finestrat is very easy to get to - only 40 minutes from Alicante airport. This means that you can be climbing within a few hours of leaving the UK!

All our courses are tailor made to suit your needs but here are some examples of what you can do. Feel free to mix and match when creating your own course content.

Adventure Courses, Via Ferrata and Ridge Scrambling

Via Ferrata were originally invented in Italy during WW1 to enable troops to travel quickly through mountainous terrain. They are now used for recreation and provide exhilerating experiences on big cliffs with easy access. There are 3 Via Ferrata in the Costa Blanca area - see the topos page for details. Learn all you need to know to tackle Via Ferrata independently and safely: lanyard systems, movement techniques using rungs and rock, assessing the quality of fixed equipment, techniques for retreat and more.

The Bernia Ridge offers a unique mountaineering experience comparable to, but shorter than, the Skye Ridge. It is an excellent place to learn scrambling techniques and ropework while enjoying the breathtaking exposure and grand panoramas. It is also good preparation for those who wish to undertake greater challenges such as the Skye Ridge. The Bernia Ridge is usually completed in stages over 2 separate days - this allows time for learning skills along the way. It is possible to complete a full traverse in a day for those with a suitable level of fitness and experience.

Rock Climbing Holidays and Courses

Performance Sport Climbing Courses are designed to help you climb better and harder. Most people improve several grades during a course and develop a knowledge of what is required to continually improve their climbing. Tactics, technique, redpointing processes, mental training and much more.

Intro To Sport Climbing - movement skills on rock, ropework and knots, choice and use of equipment, belaying, seconding routes, lots of climbing.

Intro To Traditional Climbing - many people think that Spain is all about clipping bolts. There are also hundreds of trad routes on the Costa Blanca. These provide a great arena for learning movement skills, ropework and knots, choice and use of equipment, belaying, seconding routes and lots more.

Private Guiding - gives you the option to climb the routes you want. There are dozens of long, multi-pitch classic routes such as Epsolon Central and Aristoteles on the Puig Campana and Via Valencianos on the Penon D’Ifach as well as hundreds of single pitch crags to choose from.
